KOTTAYAM: Smoke has been detected in the Ernakulam-Kayamkulam MEMU. Smoke was seen emanating when the train was about to reach Kayamkulam after passing Mavelikkara. When the train reached the Nadakkavu railway gate, the train stopped and evacuated the passengers.
When the MEMU reached Ezhera side, the track maintainers who were working on the track saw smoke bellowing from the rear of the train. They immediately informed the level crossings. The employees here contacted the railway authorities and stopped the train at the Koipally Karazhma side as per their instructions. Technical experts arrived and found a fault in the brakes.
The train is being inspected and the tracks are also being checked. No one has been injured. It has been informed that trains will be delayed following the incident. Train traffic is presently being arranged only on a single track.
