Heavy blow to head; neighbours give statement: More details in postmortem report of three-year-old boy in Perumbavoor

KOCHI: The post-mortem report regarding the death of a three-year-old boy in Perumbavoor is out. The report indicates the cause of death to be an injury to the head. The report clarifies that the injury was not the result of a fall from a building; rather, it was a heavy blow to the head, probably from a hit on the wall.

The child's mother, in her statement to the police, revealed that the stepfather—who is currently in police custody—used to beat the child regularly. She explained that the stepfather, Moheshwar, would frequently assault the boy, typically whenever the child caused a disturbance. She also stated that she did not witness the child falling from the terrace.

The three-year-old son of a migrant labourer couple died yesterday. Moheshwar admitted the boy to the hospital in the morning, saying that he fell from the top of the house and got injured. The child died in the afternoon while undergoing treatment. When the Perumbavoor police reached the Kalamassery Medical College for inquest proceedings, they found blood stains on the child's face.

The stepfather told the police that the child fell from the top of the house. But the police got suspicious and relied on the neighbours for information. According to the statements of neighbours, the stepfather used to frequently beat the child. Following this, the police took him into custody. This led the police to suspect that the death was a case of murder. It is understood that the police will proceed with further action once the post-mortem report is released.
