THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP leader and filmmaker Major Ravi has launched a sharp attack on NSS General Secretary G. Sukumaran Nair, saying he cannot accept Nair’s arrogance and high-handedness.
“I will not go to Perunna and bow before anyone,” Major Ravi said. He also said he had never tried to get his children admitted to an NSS college or sought a job there for his wife.
Major Ravi said Malabar Nairs do not have a tradition of bowing before anyone. He made the remarks in an interview with a YouTube channel.
“We are Malabar Nairs. We do not have the practice of bowing before anyone. Members of my family have always fought for society. Whenever someone came to us with a problem, my father would take the lead. People from different castes were part of such efforts. Ours is a collective that fights for everyone,” Major Ravi said.
He also said he is a politician and rejected the notion that people would vote according to the instructions of a community organisation leader. He questioned the political approach that gives importance to the influence of community leaders.
“I do not like arrogance and high-handedness. This kind of attitude is one of the reasons why I feel distant from some political leaders,” Major Ravi said.
At the same time, he said he had a different view of Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan’s public approach. Major Ravi also referred to Congress leader Shashi Tharoor, saying Tharoor is a person who has gained international recognition and should be treated with respect.
“People who are educated and have global exposure should set aside their arrogance and respect others,” he said.
Major Ravi also made it clear that he does not depend on any political party or community organisation for his livelihood. “The pension I receive for my military service is enough for me,” he said.
