No power received from Madhya Pradesh; KSEB warns of power cuts in Kerala today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala State Electricity Board (KSEB) has warned that power cuts may continue in the state today, with a shortfall of 900 MW after Kerala did not receive the expected power from Madhya Pradesh. The power cuts are likely to be imposed between 6.15 pm and 12.45 am.

Officials said there would be no alternative but to impose restrictions if sufficient power is not available through the power exchange. The state’s daily electricity consumption is reportedly nearing 99 million units, while peak-hour demand has crossed 5,000 MW, creating a situation similar to the severe summer months of previous years.

Officials said the crisis has worsened due to inadequate rainfall. KSEB CMD N. S. Rajamanickam and other senior officials held discussions with Maharashtra in an effort to address the power shortage, but the talks did not yield results.

Kerala had been expecting 250 MW from Himachal Pradesh, but is currently receiving only 70 MW during peak hours, officials said.
KSEB and Electricity Minister Sunny Joseph have indicated that the power restrictions are likely to continue in the state until September 30.
