Kothamangalam Taluk Hospital, staff member raising her voice

KOTHAMANGALAM: The staff member of Kothamangalam Taluk Hospital has been suspended over allegations that she delayed treatment for a heart patient who arrived at the hospital without paying a Rs 10 fee.

The patient, Kareem, a native of Perumbavoor, was taken to the hospital early this morning after experiencing discomfort while travelling. The staff member allegedly refused to issue a hospital ticket without payment, insisting that online payments were not accepted. She reportedly shouted at him and told him to go to a private hospital if the matter was urgent.
The patient was made to wait for around 45 minutes without receiving treatment. By the time he paid the fee and was examined by a doctor, his condition had deteriorated.

Kareem was subsequently referred to Kalamassery Medical College Hospital, where his condition has since improved. The incident drew criticism from several quarters, including former Health Minister K. K. Shailaja. The staff member was suspended following the controversy.
