KANNUR: A bus carrying Umrah pilgrims to the airport caught fire at Sivapuram in Mattannur, Kannur. The tourist bus carrying 42 passengers heading to the Kannur airport from Wayanad caught fire.

The bus left from Wayanad last night. When it reached Sivapuram, the driver noticed a fire spreading from the back of the bus. The bus then stopped and all the passengers who were sleeping were woken up and brought out. Their luggage was also taken out. The locals and the fire brigade from Mattannur and Koothuparamba jointly extinguished the fire.

It is reported that no one was injured in the accident. The fire had also spread to a nearby fruit shop. This too was brought under control by the fire brigade. A major disaster was averted as the fire did not spread to nearby houses.
