‘Previous Govt responsible for power crisis’; No immediate solution, says Minister Sunny Joseph 

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The previous government is responsible for the power crisis in the state, said Power Minister Sunny Joseph. He said there is no immediate solution to the crisis and that long-term projects are the only way forward. While talking to a media, he said that power consumption is likely to double during summer.

Meantime, the power crisis in the state is expected to continue in the coming days. The KSEB presently has no immediate solution to the difficulties faced by the public due to power outages. A high-level meeting convened by Minister Sunny Joseph the other day decided to make every possible effort to resolve the issue. Instead of imposing power cuts without prior warning, it was decided that consumers would be informed in advance. The decision comes amid protests over unexpected power outages. ‘With You’ app can be used for this purpose.

The minister said that there is a shortage of electricity across the country and that power is not available even at high prices. He said that prices of up to Rs 16 per unit are being demanded. No one is coming forward to enter into new long-term power purchase agreements. We regret the difficulties faced by the people. There is no magic solution before us to resolve the crisis. The government is doing everything humanly possible, he said.

The minister also said that the increasing practice of charging electric vehicles at night has contributed to the rise in electricity demand.
