
KOCHI: A woman was allegedly attacked while returning home from her workplace in Muvattupuzha, Ernakulam. Police said a group of young men, who were allegedly under the influence of alcohol, were involved in the incident. The dramatic sequence of events unfolded like a crime scene from a movie. Five people have been arrested in connection with the case. The arrested persons are Ajith (19) from Pallikkavala in East Marady, Adwaith (20) from Meenkunnam, Tommy Shaji (19) from Panchayathupadi, Arjun Sanil (20), and Ashwin Raghu (20) from Mangambra.
According to police, the incident took place around 11 pm when the woman, an employee at a massage centre in East Marady, was returning home after closing the establishment. While she was walking towards the bus stand, the five-member group arrived on two bikes. The group then approached the woman, rode their bikes around her, and allegedly tried to harass her. Frightened, the woman screamed and tried to escape from the spot.
At that time, a biker who was passing by stopped and tried to help her by taking her on his bike. However, when the bike stopped, the group reached them again. The terrified woman then moved to the middle of the road and signalled a passing lorry for help. The Bengali driver of the lorry understood the situation and helped the woman and the biker get into the vehicle.
However, the attackers did not stop. They allegedly followed the lorry and hit it with dangerous weapons. The driver kept calm and drove the lorry directly to the police station. The group then backed away. Following the incident, police launched an investigation and arrested all five accused on the same night. The accused have been booked under non-bailable sections, including charges related to attempted murder and assault on a woman. They have been remanded in custody. The incident took place along the road stretch between Muvattupuzha and Piravom.
