TVK in Tamil Nadu; NDA wins in Puthucherry, BJP ahead in Bengal and Assam

CHENNAI: As the counting of votes for the by-election progresses, the results for the Thattanchavadi constituency in Puducherry have surfaced. The ruling All India NR Congress has won. NDA candidate Ashok Anand won by a margin of 8,432 votes. The Congress came second, followed by the DMK in third place. The by-election was necessitated after Puducherry Chief Minister and All India N R Congress president N Rangasamy’s resignation from the Thattanchavady Assembly seat.


In West Bengal’s Nandigram constituency, the BJP is leading. Hazirani Rath, the BJP candidate and mother of Chandranath Rath, the personal assistant to the chief minister who was shot dead days after the West Bengal Assembly election results were announced, is ahead by more than 19,600 votes. Congress candidate Milan Pradhan is in the second place.


The BJP is also leading by 11,033 votes in West Bengal’s Rejinagar constituency, with the Congress in second place. Mamata Banerjee’s party candidate is in fourth place.
In Tamil Nadu’s Madurantakam constituency, TVK is leading by 3,161 votes after three rounds of counting. In Dharapuram, the TVK candidate is ahead by 724 votes after five rounds.


In Assam’s Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency, the BJP’s lead has increased to 36,373 votes. AIUDF candidate Badruddin Ajmal is in second place, while the Congress is third.
Vote counting is underway for by-elections held in five Assembly constituencies across three states and one Lok Sabha constituency in Assam. The Assembly constituencies are Nandigram and Rejinagar in West Bengal, Madurantakam and Dharapuram in Tamil Nadu, and Thattanchavady in Puducherry. The Nagaon Lok Sabha constituency in Assam also went to the polls. Voting was held on October 6.
