Nine killed, three critical after consuming spurious liquor in MP’s Sagar 

BHOPAL: Nine people were killed after consuming spurious liquor in Madhya Pradesh’s Sagar district. The incident happened in Baraj village on Saturday night. The Sagar district administration has ordered a magisterial-level inquiry into the incident.

Sagar Superintendent of Police Anurag Sujania said the preliminary assessment is that the deaths were caused by spurious liquor. However, he clarified that the exact cause of death can be confirmed only after the post-mortem reports are received.

‘About 12 people from Baraj village had consumed alcohol on Saturday night. Their condition deteriorated soon afterwards, and they experienced nausea and vomiting. Although they were immediately taken to the hospital, the lives of nine could not be saved. The condition of the three people undergoing treatment is critical,’ said Anurag.

An inspection conducted by the excise department, bottles of liquor were seized from a liquor outlet. The bottles have reportedly been sent for forensic examination.
Authorities are investigating from where the spurious liquor came and who was involved in supplying and distributing it.
