Court stays arrest warrant against Aishe Ghosh until next hearing

NEW DELHI: A court has stayed the arrest warrant issued against Aishe Ghosh, All India Joint Secretary of the Students' Federation of India (SFI) and former president of the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) Students' Union. The court directed that she should not be arrested until the next hearing, which is scheduled for Thursday.

Aishe Ghosh had approached the Patiala House Court challenging Delhi Police's move to arrest her and seeking the cancellation of the arrest warrant.

The case relates to a protest held outside Banga Bhavan in New Delhi in 2021. Delhi Police has been attempting to arrest her in connection with that case. Aishe Ghosh was also among the prominent student leaders who participated in the protests against the alleged NEET examination irregularities. Meanwhile, the CPM has decided to intensify its protest against the arrest attempt. Party leaders said they would raise the issue before the Supreme Court.

On Tuesday night, police officers in plain clothes reportedly searched for Aishe Ghosh near AKG Bhavan. Earlier in the day, a police team that arrived to arrest her was stopped by CPM leaders led by Rajya Sabha MP John Brittas. Following an argument, the police left the area without arresting her.
