NEW DELHI: The release applications of Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, who were arrested following a flash protest at Jantar Mantar, remained pending, according to reports available on October 18.
The two leaders had been remanded to five days of judicial custody on October 14. Their legal team subsequently submitted surety documents and sought their release. A decision was expected on Sunday, October 18.
The Special Executive Magistrate scheduled to hear the matter had received threatening messages. The police allegedly blamed CJP for the threats, while the party demanded an investigation into the matter. CJP leaders said they would pursue legal action against what they described as a calculated attempt to impose stricter bail conditions and prevent their leaders from participating in subsequent protests.
