NEW DELHI: Delhi Police detained Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke at his residence on Friday, minutes before the party’s ‘Lehra Do Tiranga’ march was scheduled to begin. The march was called to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The party, however, said it would go ahead with the protest.
This was the second time Dipke had been detained within a week. Delhi Police had visited his residence earlier and served him a notice warning him against holding the proposed march without permission.
Security was tightened in Connaught Place ahead of the protest, with a large number of police personnel deployed in the area. Buses were also positioned to transport people detained during the planned gathering.
According to Delhi Police, prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS) were in force in Connaught Place. The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) had not granted permission for the proposed event. Police warned that proceeding with the march despite the restrictions could invite legal action.
