Abrupt termination of 300 employees; After CorroHealth, another Kochi firm announces mass layoffs

KOCHI: Following the mass layoffs at CorroHealth, another company, Talrop, headquartered in Kochi, made a similar move, leaving almost 300 employees in crisis without salary or work. The owner said the threat of artificial intelligence (AI) left them with no other option but to stop operations. 300 employees have been laid off in phases. Those who lost their jobs are preparing for a public protest after their complaints were ignored.

Talrop is a Kochi-based company owned by Thiruvananthapuram natives. The company provides various IT services. Employees said they owe three months' salary and a settlement amount. There are also allegations that the company owners are moving forward with various investments, raising suspicion among employees. Although they had filed a complaint, the labour department purportedly responded that they would not intervene in the issue. The employees are demanding that the government intervene in the incident.

It was similarly that American company CorroHealth laid off 800 employees. The talks with CorroHealth, led by Labour Minister Bindu Krishna, yesterday failed to yield results. The company clarified that they will not budge from their earlier stance. The talks will be held again on the 20th. Minister Bindu Krishna will hold talks with Union Labour Minister Mansukh Mandaviya on Monday.
