TEHRAN: Amid the continuing conflict in West Asia, reports have emerged of major explosions near Qeshm Island, in the strategically important Strait of Hormuz. Iran’s official news agency, IRNA, reported the previous day that two explosion-like sounds were heard from an area near the island.
‘Two explosions were heard on Qeshm Island a few minutes ago. The sounds came from the direction of the sea,’ IRNA said in its report. No further information has been released regarding the cause of the explosions or any damage or casualties.
The conflict between Iran and the United States has primarily affected the Gulf region and the Strait of Hormuz in recent times. Iran has been targeting international oil tankers passing through the Strait of Hormuz as well as US military bases in the Gulf region, reportedly in retaliation for the intense attacks carried out by the United States against Iran.
