THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Kodikunnil Suresh MP has demanded that people from the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities be appointed as presidents of devaswom boards. The issue of Dalit representation to the president’s post has been raised whenever appointments are made, but political parties have failed to consider it, criticized Kodikunnil Suresh.

The MP raised the demand on Ayyankali Jayanti Day in the presence of Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan. There are five devaswom boards in the state, and Kodikunnil Suresh demanded that at least one of them should have a president from the SC/ST communities for a full term. He said this is not a matter of generosity or favour, but a rightful entitlement.

He also urged the V D Satheesan government, which aims to usher in a new era by bringing changes across various sectors, to take the opportunity to rewrite history. Meantime, Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan said the government could not simply reject the demand raised by senior Congress leader and MP Kodikunnil Suresh.
