THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Writer R Rajasree has won the 50th Vayalar Ramavarma Literary Award, a prestigious annual award for the best work of Malayalam literature. She bagged the award for her popular novel ‘Aathreyakam’. The award carries a cash prize of Rs one lakh, along with a bronze sculpture designed by renowned sculptor Kanayi Kunhiraman and a citation.
Rajasree’s Athreyakam was selected for the 50th edition of the Vayalar Award, one of the most prestigious literary awards in Malayalam literature.
Rajasree was born on July 22, 1977, at Parassinikadavu in Kannur. She is the daughter of P N Rajappan Master and R Rajamma. She has published short stories and articles in various periodicals. Her published books include Nayikanirmithi: Vazhiyum Porulum and Apasarpakakhyanangal: Bhavanayum Rashtriyavum.
Her work Kalyaniyennum Dakshayaniyennum Peraya Randu Sthreekalude Katha won the Kerala Sahitya Akademi Award in 2021. Aathreyakam is another major work by the author. Her novel Kamala Lakshanam is presently being published in a weekly magazine.
Rajasree is a teacher at the Research Centre of the Malayalam Department at Government Brennen College, Thalassery. She is active in both teaching and literary writing. She has two children, Nanda Sreeparvathi and Niranjan Sreepathi.
She was chosen for the award by a jury consisting of O V Usha, Subhash Chandran and V Vijayakumar. The award would be presented to her on October 27 at Nishagandhi Auditorium in Thiruvananthapuram at 5.30 pm, the death anniversary of Vayalar Ramavarma.
