THRISSUR: Devotees including Minister K Muraleedharan, offered Kazhchakkula (bunches of plantains) to Guruvayurappan on the day of Uthradam. The offering was after the morning Seeveli ritual. The Uthrada Kazhchakkula offering began when Melshanthi Narayanan Namboothiri of Thekkumparambath Mana offered a bunch of Nendran bananas on a banana leaf near the temple’s golden flagstaff.
The offerings were made by temple Ooral and Devaswom Managing Committee member Mallisseri Parameswaran Namboothiripad, Thantri P C Dineshan Namboothiripad, Minister K Muraleedharan, Devaswom Chairman A V Gopinath, Devaswom committee members C Manoj, Manoj B Nair and M U Shinija, district collector Shikha Surendran, Administrator Hari Gopal, Temple DA M Radhа and administrative section D A Pramod Kalarikkal.
Devotees then offered their own Kazhchakkulas to the deity. Hundreds of devotees offered them. A portion of the plantains offered to Guruvayurappan will be used tomorrow to prepare Pazham Pradhaman, a special dish served as part of the Thiruvonam feast. The remaining plantains, after meeting the temple’s requirements, will be auctioned to devotees.
