‘One who destroyed my family must be brought to justice’; Recent developments give me hope,’ says Chacko’s son

ALAPPUZHA: Jithin, son of Chacko, who was murdered in the case involving Sukumara Kurup, said the man who destroyed my family must be brought before the law. He said that his mother has been behind the case for more than four decades, but it has yielded no significant results. Jithin while talking to the media said the recent developments in the case gives him hope.

Police have so far been unable to determine the whereabouts of Sukumara Kurup, accused in the brutal murder that happened on January 22, 1984. The police have not even been able to establish with certainty whether Kurup is alive or dead. Ratnamma, a Malayali nurse who worked in Jharkhand more than two decades ago, was the last person to see Sukumara Kurup. Kurup had escaped from there by the time Kerala Police reached Jharkhand.

The case is that Kurup strangled Chacko, who bore a resemblance to him, placed the body in his own car and set it on fire. The motive was to make it appear that Kurup himself had died and thereby claim the insurance money. The local police and the crime branch, among others, conducted investigations to trace Kurup, who had gone into hiding after the crime.
