Youth confesses to strangling wife to death; cops, accused shocked on reaching home

KOZHIKODE: A youth walked into a police station and claimed that he had strangled his wife to death. The revelation was by Zakeer (49) of Puthiyangadi, a fisherman. When the police reached the house along with him, something else happened. They found his wife Nazeela (48) alive and immediately the neighbours and the locals rushed her to the hospital and rescued her. The police then arrested him for murder attempt.

The incident happened at the police station limits in Vellayil. Zakeer reached the police station last night at 11.20 pm and claimed to have murdered her. The police initially did not take his words into confidence, but when they reached his house along with him based on the information provided, found her alive.

She was first taken to the Government Beach Hospital and later to the Government Medical College Hospital. Police said the neck injuries she sustained were not life-threatening and that she had overcome the critical situation. Police said enmity following a family dispute led to the murder attempt. Zakeer was produced in the court and sent to jail.
