KOLLAM: A woman has filed a brutal dowry harassment complaint against her husband and in-laws. Anju of Mannathara at Neendakara in Kollam, filed the complaint. The Chavara police have registered a case against her husband Nandu and his parents. The woman is presently undergoing treatment at Kollam District Hospital.
The two got married four months ago. Her complaint says that her in-laws started harassing her within a week of the wedding, in the name of dowry. Nandu went to Saudi Arabia a month after the marriage, and later took her. She alleged that she was subjected to severe physical abuse there as well.
The woman said that her husband would use anything he could get his hands on like a pestle, a pressure cooker and a laptop charger to attack her. She has multiple injury marks on her body. She said that he would threaten her with a knife and record audio clips in which she was forced to make statements portraying herself as a bad woman.
‘He would threaten me with a knife and record audio clips in which I was made to say things portraying me as a bad woman. He would send them to my family and people in my locality. Everyone believed them. All those were audio clips in which I was made to confess to being a bad woman. He also took control of all the money in my account. She alleged that her husband has paranoia and often exhibits a dual personality.
He kicked me in my lower abdomen and hit me on my private parts. I had told the police about all these things when they came to record my statement, but none of them was documented. My husband has political connections. So, I do not even know whether the details have been recorded,’ she said.
