CHENNAI: Udhayanidhi Stalin, the leader of the opposition in Tamil Nadu, is now in police custody over his alleged risqué remarks targeting Trisha Krishnan. The police registered a case based on a complaint filed by TVK regarding the remarks, while DMK workers staged a strong protest that may at any time spiral into violence.

Udhayanidhi Stalin said his words were misinterpreted and expressed no fear in facing any legal consequences. He was speaking to national media after detention.

"The ruling party has no answers to the opposition's questions on the farmers' issues and the Cauvery issue. Taking me into custody is to divert attention from the questions I raised yesterday. They are circulating edited clips of my speech. I am ready to face the consequences of this. I am not afraid of a fabricated case," said Udayanidhi Stalin.

Opposition leader Udhayanidhi Stalin made a double entendre targeting Trisha while criticising Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Joseph C. Vijay on the Cauvery water dispute issue. Udhayanidhi's remarks were made at a protest event organised in Thanjavur on August 3 over the Cauvery water dispute.
