Worker dies of suffocation after entering well to remove dead rat

AROOR: A worker who entered a neighbour’s well to remove a dead rat died after suffering breathing difficulties. The deceased has been identified as Jayachandran (49) of Thekkedath House in Ulavukkad. The incident took place at around 10 am on Wednesday at the well of Gopinathan Pillai near Pulivelil Junction.

According to reports, Jayachandran experienced breathing problems while climbing down into the well and suddenly lost consciousness before falling inside. Gopinathan Pillai, who was standing near the well, immediately attempted a rescue but was unsuccessful. Fire and Rescue Services personnel from Kayamkulam later arrived at the scene and pulled Jayachandran out of the well. Although he was rushed to a private hospital in Nooranad, he was soon declared dead.

Jayachandran is survived by his mother Omanayamma. After post-mortem procedures at Adoor General Hospital, the body was handed over to relatives. Police have registered a case of unnatural death and started an investigation into the incident.
