KOTTAYAM: A complaint has been filed against Kottayam Medical College after a woman died during childbirth. The dead is Pheba (29), wife of Anish of Omanapuzha Polla in Alappuzha. Her relatives alleged that the baby was taken out through surgery after the woman lost her life. They also alleged that no information was given after Pheba was taken to the labor room. A complaint was filed with the police and the hospital superintendent over the incident.

She was admitted for delivery last Saturday. The hospital authorities first informed her family that she had a C-section delivery and later told them that it was a normal delivery. She was taken to the labor room after she felt pain at her back and abdomen. The doctors said that they were trying their best, but don’t know what happened to Pheba. There was no problem in any of the reports. Pheba was happy in the hospital. Her relatives also alleged that despite being in severe pain, hospital authorities failed to attend to her for nearly eight hours.

The hospital authorities have not yet responded to the matter. Police said that more clarity will be obtained on her death only after getting the postmortem report. Pheba came to Kottayam Medical College for maternity treatment after being referred from Alappuzha Hospital. This is her second delivery. She has a seven-year-old son. The body is being kept at a private hospital in Alappuzha. She will be laid to rest tomorrow.
