KOLLAM: A six-year-old girl was sexually assaulted on a moving train in Kollam. The victim, belonging to a Tamil family, was on a pilgrimage trip to Kerala when she went through brutal sexual assault. The accused in the incident, Saanish (40), a native of Kollam, has been taken into custody by the Punalur Railway Police.

The shocking incident took place at around 1:30 am yesterday. The incident took place while the child was returning to Tenkashi from Edathua church in the Palaruvi Express, running between Kollam and Shengottai. The child was sleeping on the floor with her grandfather in the general compartment. The accused, Saanish, took the sleeping child to his own seat without anyone noticing and molested her.

The woman sitting next to him recorded the footage of him abusing the child on her mobile phone and informed the police. The passenger intervened promptly to prevent the accused from escaping. The railway police then arrested the accused at the next station, Aryankavu.

The police stated that Sanish is an accused in three more cases, including an attempt to murder. The police informed that further action is being taken in the incident.
