THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A student was seriously injured after a tree branch fell on her near University College in the heart of the city on Friday morning. Shreya (18), a student of Lakshya Institute, suffered a serious head injury and was admitted to the Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital.

The incident took place at around 8:30 this morning. Shreya had got off the bus at Palayam to go to the institute at Spencer Junction and was walking along the footpath in front of University College. At this time, a tree branch unexpectedly broke and fell on the girl's head. The impact led to the teen landing on the ground, hitting her head on the footpath.

The security staff of a nearby hotel first witnessed the incident. They immediately took the girl inside the hotel and provided her with first aid. She was then taken to the general hospital, but due to her serious injuries, she was transferred to the medical college. Shreya is currently undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit.
