THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Former education minister V Sivankutty has said that the state’s public education sector is facing a major crisis. In a Facebook post, he said the delay in forming a new cabinet even days after the results were announced, has severely affected the smooth functioning of the education department.

He noted that there was major confusion regarding the announcement of the SSLC examination results. The absence of a minister became an obstacle in taking clear decisions in a process awaited by lakhs of students and parents. Sivankutty also said that the work related to ensuring the fitness and safety of schools has now fallen into disarray.

He warned that continuous minister-level monitoring and coordination are essential for completing the printing and distribution of textbooks on time. The lack of such intervention, he said, could lead to serious consequences in the coming days. Sivankutty added that the general education department had progressed in recent years through systematic and organized functioning.
