PATHANAMTHITTA: Internal dissent within the CPM is reaching a boiling point following the party’s crushing defeat in the Assembly elections. During the recent Konni Area Committee meeting, members reportedly levelled sharp criticisms against senior leaders Pinarayi Vijayan and State Secretary M V Govindan, citing the leadership’s controversial statements and policy decisions as the primary drivers behind the statewide erosion of voter support.

The meeting reportedly criticised Pinarayi Vijayan’s controversial remark during a public meeting in Konni, where he told a person to “go home and ask.” Members said the statement created a major negative impact across the state. According to the criticism raised in the meeting, the remark resulted in the loss of at least 20 votes in every booth and caused a statewide loss of votes for the party. The meeting also reportedly demanded the dissolution of the CPM state committee.

Criticism was also directed at M.V. Govindan. Some members alleged that he secured the Taliparamba seat for his wife, while ignoring the larger interests of the party. According to them, such actions led to the loss of several seats across the state. The committee also discussed the performance in Konni, saying that candidate Janish Kumar managed only a narrow victory. Members reportedly claimed that if the UDF candidate had received one more week for campaigning, the LDF could have lost by 15,000 votes. They also said that such a result would have led to a complete defeat for the LDF in Pathanamthitta district.
