NEW DELHI: A street vendor’s response to a question about whether women are still oppressed in India has now gone viral on social media. Lakhs of people have praised the young man after watching a video shared on Instagram by Delhi-based content creator Sonali Singh.
The young man, who sells crochet flowers on the street, was asked whether women are still oppressed in society. He replied that they are.
He said that many men who claim to be highly educated speak loudly about women’s freedom but often ignore the reality. According to him, much of today’s public display of love is just “show off” for social media.
The vendor also criticised men who limit women only to household work. He questioned the mindset of men who leave women because of the natural physical changes that happen after childbirth.
“If a person’s body changes, does love disappear too?” the young man asked. His statement has sparked wide discussion on social media.
After the video went viral, many people came forward praising him. Most comments under the video said that the young man has a better understanding of women’s issues than even many highly educated people.
