The flames from the sacred fireplace 'Aazhi' below the holy steps of the Sabarimala shrine are often seen rising towards the sky. The fire is stoked by the ghee-smeared coconut shells thrown by devotees into the Azhi.
There have been frequent incidents when firefighters were called in to put out the fire when the flames rise to uncontrollable heights. In one of the camera clicks of Kerala Kaumudi Pathanamthitta photographer Santosh Nilakkal, who is currently on duty at Sannidhanam, what was captured was a rare mystical frame.
On Monday morning, Santosh Nilakkal took 6 still photos of Azhi when the rising sun was in the backdrop of Sannidhanam. Unbelievably, in the last picture, the fire was in the form of Shiva Tandavam. This was vivid.
However, the first pictures showed only some formation. The last picture, however, turned out to be a strange one, never seen before. Santosh Nilakkal says that he noticed the strange form when he looked at the preview after taking the photos.
Santhosh, who climbs up the holy hillock every Sabarimala season as part of news reporting, has witnessed many such rare unexplainable moments but this is the first time that he has witnessed such rare sight.
