Popular Malayalam actress Navya Nair has found herself at the centre of social media criticism after sharing glimpses of her Vishu celebrations. While the actress shared the festive photos to connect with her fans, a section of netizens has slammed the move, citing the recent passing of her mother-in-law.

Navya’s mother-in-law, Shantha Menon, passed away on March 30, 2026. Following the news, Navya had shared a deeply emotional tribute on Instagram, describing her mother-in-law as a mother figure who had always supported her passion for dance.

However, the mood turned sour on social media when Navya posted pictures of herself and her son celebrating Vishu just two weeks after the tragedy. Critics were quick to point out that traditional mourning periods usually last longer.

Social Media reactions

The comment sections of her recent posts have been flooded with mixed reactions. Some of the notable criticisms include:

  • "It hasn't even been a month since her mother-in-law passed away, and she is already back to celebrating?"
  • "Sister, didn't your husband's mother die recently? I don’t know your family customs, but is it right to celebrate like this so soon?"
  • "According to our traditions, we refrain from celebrations for at least a year after a death in the family. How can she post these pictures so casually?"
