PATHANAMTHITTA: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Kerala recently as part of the state assembly election campaign, attending events in Pathanamthitta and Thiruvananthapuram. The Pathanamthitta campaign event was organised in Thiruvalla.
Within ten minutes of leaving the venue after his public address, the Prime Minister contacted the SPG officers in charge of his security. While the unexpected call initially sparked concern among the officers, they were relieved to hear the Prime Minister’s specific request: he wanted the paperweights he had seen at the Thiruvalla venue sent to Delhi.
The Prime Minister had been captivated by a Feng Shui-style crystal lotus paperweight. Feng Shui is a traditional element of Chinese architecture and design, and this particular piece featured a lotus with 16 petals that could spin while fixed to a surface.
The organisers in charge of the green room located and purchased two of these paperweights from a shop near the private bus stand in Thiruvalla. That same night, they travelled to the Thiruvalla PWD Guest House and handed the items over to the SPG team to be transported to the capital.
