State government to honour Sanju Samson; Chief Minister to inaugurate felicitation ceremony on March 16 at Central Stadium

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kerala government will honour Malayali cricketer Sanju Samson, who was part of the Indian team that won the ICC Men's T20 World Cup and was also named the Player of the Tournament. The felicitation ceremony will be held on March 16 in the evening at Central Stadium, Thiruvananthapuram. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will inaugurate the event. Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman will preside over the function, which will also be attended by ministers and the Chief Secretary.

Sanju’s excellent performances with the bat, especially in the final, played a key role in India lifting the title. The tournament also marked a remarkable comeback for the Malayali cricketer after a difficult phase in form. The Sports Department is making large-scale arrangements to organise a grand reception for him.

Meanwhile, the Kerala Cricket Association (KCA) will also honour Sanju Samson on Monday. The ceremony will take place during the inauguration of a newly built modern cricket stadium at Mullassery in Mangalapuram, Thiruvananthapuram. Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan will dedicate the new stadium to the sporting community. Sanju Samson, who will attend the event as the chief guest, will be honoured by KCA officials in the presence of the Chief Minister.

The function will be presided over by KCA President Sreejith V Nair. Sports Minister V. Abdurahiman, Education Minister V. Sivankutty, Food and Civil Supplies Minister G. R. Anil, and MLAs V. Sasi and Kadakampally Surendran will also attend the programme.
