A healthy life has become a top choice for most people today. They do things like eating a balanced diet and spending hours in the gym for exercise to achieve this. Reports say that the number of people quitting harmful habits like smoking is also increasing. However, health experts say that this is not the only thing that matters and that there is another habit that is very important when it comes to protecting yourself from lifestyle diseases.

Practices like regular exercise, a balanced diet, and quitting smoking and alcohol are important, but getting proper sleep along with this is also important. The habit of not sleeping enough should be abandoned immediately. Insomnia can lead to serious problems like stress and high blood pressure.

Neurologist Dr Kunal Bahrani has revealed that a Delhi-based man's chronic high blood pressure was due to lack of sleep. Dr Kunal has shared this in a post shared on social media. The doctor also states in the post that the 29-year-old, who eats a healthy diet, works out daily, and does not smoke or drink, had high blood pressure and severely compromised brain health due to lack of sleep.

The problems one faces due to lack of sleep can be very serious. It often goes unrecognised because the body shows its symptoms very slowly. If one doesn't get proper sleep, one's brain function will reach a critical state over time, along with feeling tired. Once the brain function starts to deteriorate due to lack of sleep, every other function will silently deteriorate, he explains in the note.
