Elephant Mullakkal Balakrishnan of Mullakkal Rajarajeswari Temple dies

ALAPPUZHA: The elephant Mullakkal Balakrishnan (55), owned by Mullakkal Sree Rajarajeswari Temple and Travancore Devaswom Board, has died. The elephant tied within the temple walls collapsed Monday morning at 7:15 am during seeveli time. Officials rushed after seeing this and confirmed the death of the elephant.

Balakrishnan was under treatment for the past few months due to ill health. Therefore, he was not taken for any procession. A special resting place was arranged for the elephant near the Mullakkal temple. The elephant was bought in 1987 using the balance amount that was left after the kodiarchana of the Mullakkal temple. The elephant was offered to the temple in 1988.
The inquest will be completed as the forest department officials come. He will be taken to Konni for cremation.
