COLOMBO: A Sri Lankan national was arrested for making sexual innuendos at a New Zealand woman. The suspect was arrested this morning. The 23-year-old was arrested after a solo traveller shared a video of her ordeal on Instagram. The video shared by the woman is now going viral on social media.
The woman faced the shocking incident on the fourth day of her trip to Sri Lanka.
“Had a great start to the morning after swimming at sunrise. However, a man started following me, and his behaviour seemed very disturbing. When I stopped to rest and drink water, he came over. He got off his scooter and came to talk to me. Thinking he was being friendly, I let him talk.
But his intentions were bad. He asked where I lived. It was clear to me what he meant. Then he told me that he wanted to have sex with me. To my shock, he unzipped his pants and started masturbating. I immediately started the auto and left from there. The shock of it has not gone away yet. These are issues faced by solo woman travellers. I thought a lot before deciding to inform the outside world about this.
Travelling is not always about beautiful views and happiness. No one should judge Sri Lanka by this single incident. Many people I met there were very kind and helpful. The man I met is not a reflection of the country. This experience will not affect my future journey. I will move forward with courage,” the woman said in the video.
