KOCHI: The complainant has moved the high court against the notice of the police to record her statement in the sexual abuse case against rapper Vedan. The woman approached the high court demanding that the notice sent by the police revealed her identity and it be cancelled.

The Ernakulam Central Police registered a case on August 21 based on the complaint sent by the research student to the chief minister via email. The police had stated that all they had was information from the email ID and that they could not proceed with the investigation based on this alone. It is in this context that the police sent the notice to the complainant. The woman has approached the high court against this notice.

However, the investigating officers have clarified that they cannot proceed with the investigation without recording the statement of the woman. The police also clarified that the notice was sent in accordance with the correct procedures. The district court had earlier granted Vedan bail in the case. The Ernakulam Central The case registered alleged that she was summoned to his flat, sexually assaulted and molested. The incident happened in December 2020.

The complainant contacted Vedan as part of her research on the music of Adivasi Gothra Groups. The student, who had come to Ernakulam to collect information as per his instructions, was taken to the flat and molested. Her complaint said that she fled from there.
