THRISSUR: The dream of the great poet who passed away will be fulfilled when Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan inaugurates the first zoological park in India, designed in harmony with nature, in Puthur on the 28th. Vyloppilli Sreedhara Menon dreamed of a spacious park when deers died in crowded cages during the centenary celebrations of the Thrissur Zoo (1985). The poet wrote the poem Krishna Mrugangal (Blackbucks) when his heart was broken after seeing the death of the blackbucks and dogs biting them. Former Chief Minister C. Achutha Menon brought it to the attention of the administration. Dr. Sukumar Azhikode also supported him. In 1994, the government proposed to establish a zoo in Puthur.
The inauguration celebrations, which will make that three-and-a-half-decade dream a reality, have been flagged off. Minister K. Rajan hoisted the flag. A ten-day festival is being held in Puthur. The steps to bring animals and other living things to Puthur from foreign countries, Tamil Nadu and Karnataka are in progress.
Admission for those who book
Admission for the first two months is only for visitors who booked in advance. Priority is given to students. After the inauguration, school authorities can apply for admission through the park's email. Fifty people will be admitted in the first few days and more will be admitted later. Admission for all by January. The trial run is for the animals to adapt to the habitat and visitors.
