NEW DELHI: The BJP is reportedly trying hard to bring actor Vijay's Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party to their side after the Karur disaster. The BJP is looking to capitalise on the actor's huge fan base in the run-up to the 2026 Tamil Nadu assembly elections. Sources close to the party say that a senior BJP leader has told TVK that Vijay will not be alone if he is unfairly targeted by the DMK.
BJP wants to isolate DMK. Sources close to BJP say that it has informed TVK about this and has advised Vijay to wait patiently. The BJP leadership believes that DMK will have to face anti-incumbency sentiment in the upcoming elections. BJP has been blaming the Karur tragedy on the DMK government's poor preparations from the beginning. BJP has also argued that TVK alone cannot be held responsible for the tragedy.
The BJP believes that TVK can influence voters and emerge as a major force ahead of the elections due to Vijay's popularity. The BJP also believes that voters from smaller parties like DMDK and NTK are likely to move towards TVK. However, close sources say that the BJP is taking a cautious approach as it does not want to break its alliance with AIADMK. Apart from the BJP, the Congress was also in touch with TVK.
