Pride for Malayalam cinema; Mohanlal to receive Dadasaheb Phalke Award for lifetime contribution to Indian cinema

NEW DELHI: Actor Mohanlal to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award for 2023. The Dadasaheb Phalke Award is the highest honour for overall contribution to Indian cinema. Mohanlal is the first Malayali actor to receive the Dadasaheb Phalke Award. Mohanlal will be presented with the award at the National Film Awards venue on Tuesday.

This is the highest film award given by the Indian government since 1969 in memory of Dadasaheb Phalke, known as the father of Indian cinema. Malayali director Adoor Gopalakrishnan had received the award in 2004. This is the second time that a Malayali has received the Dadasaheb Phalke Award.
