'I was supposed to be with her on that flight'; Actress Meena's big revelation 21 years after Soundarya's death

Actress Meena Durairaj celebrated her 50th birthday on September 16th, which saw an outpouring of messages and wishes from stars across the film industry. However, now, Meena is in the news for talking about something which she kept a secret for the last 21 years. The actress was on the talk show hosted by actor Jagapathi Babu when she opened up about the bonhomie she shared with the late actress Soundarya.

MEENA:

“Soundarya was very sweet, and we were very good friends. Apart from movies, she had keen views on politics and was returning to Bengaluru after attending a political campaign in Telangana when the plane she was travelling on crashed.

In fact, I, too, was invited for the campaign and should have been with her on that same flight. However, my busy schedule proved to be a hindrance. When I heard the crash news the next day, a shiver ran through my body and I was traumatised. Still thinking about the incident gives me sleepless nights.”

On 17 April 2004, Soundarya died in an aircraft crash along with her brother Amarnath in Bengaluru. Soundarya was pregnant at the time of her tragic death.
