Ranjan Pramod has penned many memorable Malayalam movies in his career as a scriptwriter. One of his major accomplishments is arguably writing the screenplay of the film Meeshamadhavan, directed by Lal Jose and starring Dileep and Kavya Madhavan. In a podcast interview, Ranjan talked about the movie and one of the scenes from that film, which he still disapproves of.
Ranjan Pramod:
"The script for Meesha Madhavan was not written in relation to Lord Krishna. It was a hit film, but director Lal Jose has openly stated that the script of the movie didn’t give him satisfaction. I don’t know the reason behind that, but I can’t deny the fact that there were disputes between the director and scriptwriter over one scene in the movie.
I had certain differences over a scene where the actor comes to steal the waist chain of his love interest. Lal Jose promised me that the edited-out version would solve all problems. However, I was not invited to the editing session. It may not be a deliberate act.
It was meant to be a beautiful erotic scene. However, I was not happy with the size of the waist chain. The shooting was progressing at 2 am, and it was impossible to change the waist chain at this late hour. The scene should have focused on the waist rather than the chain. This is not a jewellery advertisement. However, it was filmed in a way that the camera focused on the size of the waist chain and the peacock feather. There also came a few rape innuendoes. As a creator, it left me uncomfortable, and to this day, I stand by that opinion.
We had a heated talk over the matter, and it even affected our friendship.”
