WASHINGTON: US President Donald Trump asked big tech companies Google and Microsoft to stop hiring from foreign countries, including India. Trump was speaking at an AI conference in Washington. Trump asked American companies to stop building factories in China, employing Indian techies and rather focus on creating jobs at home.

“This is the global mindset of the tech industry. Many of our biggest tech companies have enjoyed the blessings of American freedom while building factories in China, hiring workers from India and making profits in Ireland. At the same time, they are firing and censoring citizens at home. Under President Trump, those days are over.

Winning the AI race will require a new spirit of patriotism and national loyalty in Silicon Valley and beyond. We need U.S. technology companies that support America in every way possible. We want you to put America first. You have to do it. That's all we're asking," Trump said.

President Trump also signed three AI-related orders at the conference.
