THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A holiday was declared for five districts in Kerala on Thursday, considering the heavy rainfall that lashed across the state. The holidays were declared in Kasaragod, Kannur, Wayanad, Kozhikode and Thrissur districts. Meanwhile, the holiday in the Kannur district is only applicable for schools.
All educational institutions such as schools, colleges, professional colleges, Kendriya Vidyalayas, Anganwadis, tuition centres, madrasas and special classes will remain closed in all four other districts. In the heavy rainfall on Wednesday, the Engapuzha river in Kozhikode overflowed and even covered the road.
According to the forecast of the Indian Meteorological Department, an orange alert has been issued for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts tomorrow, and a yellow alert for Alappuzha, Idukki, Ernakulam and Thrissur, Palakkad and Malappuram districts.
