KOLKATA: A woman was sexually assaulted in a boys' hostel. The incident took place at the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Kolkata. It is learnt that the woman who was raped is not an IIM student. Following the incident, a second-year undergraduate student was arrested on the basis of the student's complaint.
The incident took place yesterday in the college hostel. The woman, a clinical psychologist, has said in her complaint that she was called to the hostel for a counselling session. She claimed that she lost consciousness after consuming a drink. The drink was laced with drugs. The victim's complaint states that she realised that she had been raped when she regained consciousness. She also said that the rapist threatened her not to reveal the information. The police said that the accused was arrested yesterday and further investigation into the incident is underway. The accused Mahaveer Toppannavar alias Parmanand Jain has been sent to police custody till July 19.
