These days, film director Alleppey Ashraf acts as the conduit for people to have a sneak peek into the hitherto private lives of celebrities. In his latest episode, Ashraf talked about the little-known happenings that shaped actress Shwetha Menon.
Ashraf:
“Shwetha entered the world of films after having a quite successful stint in modelling. What earned her fame and popularity was the decision to appear in the advertisement for the international brand Kamasutra.
The ad tried to educate people to have safe and protected sex. However, the efforts went in vain as most people, including Malayalees, failed to fathom the real intent and were shocked seeing a Kerala-born model having the nerve to appear in such a ‘raunchy’ work.
After the advertisement caused uproar in society, a few journalists managed to reach Shwetha’s father’s house and sought his response on the issue.
However, her father left all those press people stunned with his take on the issue.
“She is a model. It is part of her job to act in such works. Moreover, she tried to educate people to have safe sex. Isn’t it such a good thing to do for society? “
Shwetha, in one such interview, admitted this incident to be her proudest moment as a daughter. She also admitted that the same wouldn’t have happened today, as more models would have easily agreed to be part of such ads.
It is for the same reason that I often call Shwetha an actor ahead of our times”
