JERUSALEM: Hamas has announced that it is ready to sign a deal to end the war. A senior Hamas official told the AFP news agency that it is ready for a five-year agreement to release all hostages in one go and end hostilities. Hamas's new announcement comes after it rejected Israel's proposal for a 45-day ceasefire by freeing ten hostages.
Hamas has previously demanded that the agreement end the war. Hamas's position is that Israel must completely withdraw from Gaza, all hostages be released and humanitarian aid must reach Palestine, which has been devastated by the war.
Meanwhile, the Gaza Civil Defense Agency announced that 17 people were killed in an Israeli attack on Gaza today. The agency also said that many people were trapped in the rubble of buildings. The previous day, 35 people, including children, were killed in an Israeli airstrike in Shejaiya, Gaza City. Israel demolished a multi-story building. Israel's response was that it targeted a senior Hamas leader. The number of people killed in the Israeli attacks on Gaza since they began in October 2023 has reached about 60,000. The Gaza Ministry of Health also confirmed that more than 150,000 people have been injured. Aid distribution throughout Gaza is at a standstill.
