KOZHIKODE: A man attempted suicide after accusing the faculty of the Law Department of Calicut University of mentally torturing his daughter. V Shaji, a native of Attingal, cut his wrist after reaching the law department in the university on Saturday.

Shaji's daughter Indulekha is a final semester LLM law student. The complaint alleges that despite submitting her research paper on time, the guide returned it several times, demanding corrections.

As per the allegation, the guide stuck with his stance despite the head of the academic department approving the research work. Finally, his daughter approached the academic department with a request to write a letter stating that the research paper had been rejected, but the authorities refused.

In protest, Shaji reached the department today and cut his wrist using a paper cutter. The office staff immediately admitted Shaji to a nearby private hospital. Meanwhile, course coordinator Muzammil Amin responded that the student was vehemently resisting any changes in the paper despite the faculty offering help.
