SRINAGAR: Abu Tahir, son of MLA PK Kunhalikutty's sister, narrowly escaped the terror attack. 'We were at the scene of the incident till just before the attack the other day. The attack took place when we left there to have food,' Abu Tahir said. He added that Srinagar and its surroundings are now safe.

"We started investigating and getting information about what happened after seeing helicopters flying in circles and military personnel and police running around to ensure the safety of tourists. The injured were immediately shifted to the hospital. Ambulances and other vehicles were arriving here for this purpose. Local tourist guides also helped in taking the injured to the hospital."

"The situation in and around Srinagar is now safe. Security arrangements have been strengthened. There are checks everywhere on the way. Normally it takes three hours to reach Srinagar from Pahalgam but now it took about six hours. Such heavy checks and security arrangements have been put in place," said Abu Tahir.

Abu Tahir and his family, which includes three children, had planned to spend the vacation until the 25th. Abu Tahir said that they are trying to return home as soon as possible given the current circumstances.
