KOLKATA: Trinamool Congress has made big announcements in its manifesto released ahead of the Lok Sabha elections. Mamata Banerjee's party's biggest promise is to repeal the Citizenship Amendment Act. It is interesting to note that Mamata also gave the same assurance on the citizenship issue as the frontline Congress and DMK.
Despite not being able to come to a consensus on seat-sharing with the INDIA Front, which includes the Congress, the presence of a similar declaration in the manifesto is a hopeful factor for the front. At the same time, Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress is also announcing public welfare schemes in addition to the repeal of the Citizenship (Amendment) Act.
An important promise is to provide 10 LPG cylinders for free to the below-poverty-line population. Ten cylinders are for one year. Along with this, five kilograms of ration will be distributed free of charge every month. This includes rice, wheat and other grains.
Mamata Banerjee also promises relief schemes for farmers. Along with this, it is said in the manifesto that they will intervene in the price increase of petrol and diesel and make petrol products available at affordable prices to common people.
A minimum of 100 days of employment per year is promised to all holders of employment cards. The manifesto says that these promises will be implemented when the government is formed as part of the India Front.
